ATC Sports Day on Sunday 14th October at Trentham Camp

Our team, ably captained by Sergeant Hannah MacKay were placing a creditable 3rd.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of the less physically fit members of the team participating and proving to themselves that they could actually make a good contribution.

Some of the standout performers were Corporal McLay, Cadets Mel McKenzie, Maddy Bess, Corey Goodwin, Vaughan Keno, (Goalie) Fraser Armstrong, Warrant Officer Nathan Wilson, and Sergeant Hannah MacKay, but in fact all the team really excelled and Cadets McGowan-Arnold, Salmon and Manley all made valuable contributions.

We started the day with three wins against relatively evenly matched teams and then some hard fought draws. We then faced the toughest opposition against a very strong young team with lots of substitutes who used this to somewhat demoralise our team for a while.

A certain "Elderly Officer" stepped in to attempt to even up the stakes for a few games, and gave the strong remaining teams a run for their money.

What transpired was a really tired team with a few carrying injuries finding some new strength and even the least confident members did some amazing things and came home feeling they were a valuable member of the team.

WELL DONE EVERYONE!!

The final was taken out by No. 1 (City of Wellington) Squadron over No. 41 (City of Porirua) Squadron.

As spectators new to indoor cricket, we were somewhat confused as to how the scores were counted, but it was an incredibly fast paced game between two very deserving finalists.

Our thanks to the organisor, Flying Officer Steve Goodwin of No. 41 (City of Porirua) Squadron, and parents who were able at short notice to attend all or part of the day and had a fantastic days entertainment. We all left almost hoarse!
A goodly faceful of sun and wind meant we all went home tired, and there was no need for lighting that night our faces were so red, and everyone was probably in bed by 8.30!

WELL DONE ONCE AGAIN AND CONGRATULATIONS TO THE VICTORS, NO. 1 SQUADRON!
